Project Goal
Help prevent and cure eye diseases among kindergarten-aged children in ten communities of Armenia to improve their vision for a bright future.
Project Background
Education has always been very important for Armenian families and much is being done to provide proper education to children. Eye problems or diseases could seriously affect children’s efforts to study well and as a result be active members of the society.
Children in underserved communities are at even more risk to be undiagnosed and untreated in time, thus having vision loss because of eye diseases such as amblyopia. Unfortunately, there are not enough funds, or enough trained ophthalmologists to serve many of these communities.
This is why we partnered with the Armenian EyeCare Project (AECP) to help give the gift of sight to Armenia’s children. The AECP has been working in all communities of Armenia for more than 25 years.
AECP’s highly qualified professionals will use portable auto-refractometers to screen 11 000 kindergarten-aged children in the communities of Armenia. Those in need for further detailed examination and basic treatment will get vouchers (about 700). The project will also provide 160 eyeglasses to those with refractive error.
Together through this modest project we can have a huge impact on children’s vision and contribute to Armenia’s bright future
