Children in Artsakh who have asthma cannot access vital medication. Ayo! is partnering with the Child Health Foundation of Armenia to purchase and transport meds to kids who desperately need them. Let’s do our part to ensure that Artsakh’s children can at least breathe easy!

Project Background

Since December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan has closed the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia. As a result, 120,000 of our compatriots, including 30,000 children, are under blockade.</p>

Even the delivery of food and medicine to Artsakh has become very difficult. At the moment, it is possible to transport much-needed medicine to Artsakh only with the support of the Red Cross.

Symbicort, which is necessary for the treatment of children with asthma, is on the list of vital medicines. Currently, there are about 100 children in Artsakh who need it. These days, it is simply impossible to find Symbicort in Artsakh. At $25/month, the medicine is also prohibitively expensive for many families.

Asthma is the most common chronic disease among children. Children who suffer from it experience chronic inflammation of the airways, leading to coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and tightness in the chest. When a child with severe asthma was asked to depict his experience of the illness, he drew a picture of himself lying down with an elephant on his chest.

These terrible symptoms can be avoided by having medication on hand and using it in a timely way. Children with asthma can live a healthy and normal childhood and fully integrate into society.

After learning about this problem, we decided to implement an emergency program together with the Children’s Health Foundation of Armenia. Our goal is to deliver medicine to as many children struggling with asthma in Artsakh as possible. With the efforts of the Children’s Health Fund of Armenia and the permission of the relevant authorities, more than 700 children living in Armenia and Artsakh received Symbicort medicine in the last 1.5 years.
