[Ayo!]: Sharing Food and Smiles

September 29, 2014 1:15 pm

After successfully completing their first fully funded project – purchasing new kitchenware for three of FAR’s soup kitchens – the Ayo! team decided to celebrate with a surprise for beneficiaries.

Ayo! Project Director Armen Anmeghikyan, Project Manager Jemma Safaryan and Community Director Helena Melkonyan, along with FAR Soup Kitchen Coordinator Rafik Martirosyan, personally delivered the new kitchenware to the Berd, Yerevan and Gyumri soup kitchens touched by this project.

FAR’s Soup Kitchens Program benefits men and women of retirement age as well as low-income families. Every weekday the soup kitchens provide a nutritious meal consisting of soup, a main course, bread, and juice or tea to each beneficiary. Until recently, these three soup kitchens lacked enough basic kitchenware to ensure a dignified meal for the roughly 500 people who come everyday. For most, the soup kitchen meal is main meal of the day and their chief source of protein and nutrients. The Ayo! team decided to raise money through Ayo!’s crowdfunding platform as a way to purchase new dinnerware and fill this major gap in resources.

On the day they showed up Ayo!, along with several student volunteers from FAR’s scholarship programs, invited a guest chef to cook something extraordinary for the occasion. The whole team then served the food to the beneficiaries and talked with them, brightening their day.

An overdose of smiles and “thank yous” they gave those young people newfound motivation and inspiration to keep advocating for the good they fight for everyday.

Through the short video below we wish to share the spirit of happiness that Ayo! has spread in Gyumri thanks to each and everyone of their supporters who wish to better lives of the most vulnerable.
